I have over 18 years’ experience of working clinically with people across a variety of settings with people of all ages. I work with adults and young people (16 and up) now. I qualified as a Doctor of Clinical Psychology in 2008.
I have a special interest in helping people to process and move forward from their experiences of psychological trauma and Post Traumatic Stress. I have worked extensively with people with a wide range of psychological trauma including physical, sexual and emotional abuse, chronic trauma experiences such as domestic abuse and bullying or where the client is traumatised by something they were part of or did not do. Along this theme, I have recently collaborated on two studies researching psychological trauma in surgeons and front line health professionals.
I also have a special interest in the links between physical health and emotional wellbeing. I have recently left my two posts in the NHS, working with people living with HIV, and people with severe respiratory conditions. I also undertook work with people with voice conditions that may make it difficult to engage in traditional talking therapy such as functional dysphonia. My NHS work now is in psychodermatology (the interaction between the skin and mind) and in Epidermolysis Bullosa, a genetic skin condition.
I am an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and regularly contribute to published research and provide teaching sessions and presentations.
I am an accredited Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner
